Federal authorities intensified security measures this past weekend by apprehending 11 Iranian nationals and one U.S. citizen in a multi–state sweep. Among those detained, two individuals have been identified as suspected terrorists, underscoring the Department of Homeland Security’s focus on removing high-risk actors from American communities. All are now in ICE custody pending removal or federal proceedings.

Operations commenced in Locust, Alabama, where agents arrested an alleged former Iranian Army sniper who entered last October on a fiancé visa and failed to adjust his status. In Houston, ICE detained an individual allegedly carrying a loaded 9 mm pistol despite a final order of removal and a documented history of domestic-violence allegations, as well as another national ordered removed nearly two decades ago after multiple drug convictions and driving-while-suspended charges.

In Gluckstadt, Mississippi, officers took into custody an alleged former lawful permanent resident stripped of his status in 2017 for marriage-fraud allegations and later designated a suspected terrorist. In St. Paul, Minnesota, authorities arrested an alleged former member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard—with alleged ties to Hezbollah—and a prior firearms conviction; he had been ordered removed in June 2022.

Further arrests spanned Tempe, Arizona, where an individual allegedly convicted of threatening law enforcement and another alleged U.S. citizen charged with harboring him and threatening ICE officers were detained; Colorado Springs, where two nationals—one subject to expedited removal in June 2023 and another long-ordered removed—were found cohabiting without authorization; and San Francisco, Buffalo, and San Diego, where individuals with alleged convictions for theft, drug offenses, forgery, and impersonation were taken into custody.
