Hyundai IONIQ 5 Owners Must Check Headlights After Federal Recall Linked to Safety Labeling Issue

Drivers of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 may need to inspect or relabel their vehicle’s headlights following a new federal recall that could impact headlamp safety and increase the risk of crashes if left unaddressed.

Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall affecting 10,409 IONIQ 5 electric vehicles produced between November 12, 2024, and March 20, 2025. The issue centers on the right-hand headlamp assemblies, which may have been molded with incorrect visual aiming marks. Although the lights were properly aimed during production, these markings may cause confusion during future service, potentially leading to misalignment and reduced visibility for drivers and oncoming traffic.

Federal regulators say the faulty markings violate a provision of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and could result in increased collision risk. The problem stems from wear in the supplier’s molding die, which altered critical labeling from “VOR” to “VOP.” The issue was traced to excessive polishing of the die by Hyundai’s Tier 1 supplier in Mexico.

Owners will be notified beginning August 2, 2025, and will receive compliant labels along with instructions for inspection and application. Hyundai will cover the cost of this remedy, including dealership assistance if needed. Vehicles remain safe to drive, but owners are encouraged to check their headlamps and apply the new label to avoid safety concerns. Those who have already paid for related repairs may be eligible for reimbursement.
