The Shyft Group has issued a recall affecting 1,977 Utilimaster Velocity light trucks from model years 2022 to 2024, citing a noncompliance with federal safety standards. The issue stems from missing Tire and Loading Information Placards, which are required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 110. Without these placards, vehicle owners may unknowingly exceed the truck’s loading capacity, potentially raising the risk of a crash.

The affected trucks, which include both spark-ignition and electric battery-powered models, have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) under 10,000 pounds. Shyft Group attributed the missing placards to a printer malfunction that prevented the application of the labels during production. An internal inquiry on May 7, 2025, first flagged the issue during a review of new production units, and subsequent investigation revealed the extent of the noncompliance across nearly 2,000 vehicles.
To remedy the situation, Shyft Group plans to mail the required tire and loading information placards directly to owners, along with instructions for proper installation. Vehicles that remained in Shyft’s possession were immediately placed under a stop-ship order on May 8, 2025, until the missing labels were installed. No prior warnings are associated with this defect, and no dealers are slated to receive notifications under the recall plan.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has registered the recall under the number 25V335. Affected owners are scheduled to be notified in a phased rollout starting June 6, 2025. The recalled vehicles include models produced between August 15, 2022, and May 8, 2025, for gasoline-powered trucks, and between December 5, 2022, and April 23, 2025, for electric versions. Owners are advised not to drive or to park the vehicles outside until the placard installation is complete.
