The defect stems from a diagnostic programming flaw that prevents the warning light from activating when needed, thereby increasing the risk of understeer or oversteer without driver awareness. Although no accidents or injuries have been reported to date, Mazda confirmed the non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 126. The affected vehicles were produced between December 19, 2023, and February 28, 2025, at the Mazda Motor Corporation plant in Japan.
Mazda first identified the issue in February 2025 during separate vehicle testing. Following a detailed investigation and a temporary halt in vehicle shipment and inspection certifications, Mazda implemented a software correction in the production line on March 6, 2025. A comprehensive global review concluded in May, affirming the need for a recall to address the non-compliance.

Owners will be contacted by mail beginning July 21, 2025, with a phased recall process due to the limited initial availability of replacement parts. Dealers will replace the defective DSC units at no cost. Since the vehicles are still under full warranty, Mazda will not offer a separate reimbursement program. The supplier of the defective component is Bosch Corporation based in Yokohama, Japan.
