In a recent crackdown, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the results of Operation Patriot, a month-long enforcement effort that led to the arrest of nearly 1,500 illegal aliens across Massachusetts. Many of those detained had previous criminal charges, including rape and kidnapping, and had been released despite existing ICE detainers due to local sanctuary policies. DHS officials emphasized the risks these policies pose to public safety.

Among those arrested was Marcelino De Leon Yoc, a Guatemalan national and registered sex offender, who faced multiple charges including aggravated rape of a child. He had two prior ICE detainers ignored by local authorities. Another arrest included John Tobon Vargas from Colombia, charged with kidnapping and aggravated rape, who had been released after his arraignment without notification to ICE. Additionally, Kebler Lasso from Ecuador, previously convicted of soliciting to commit murder, was arrested in Brockton after being released with a GPS monitor despite an immigration detainer.

Denis Javier Aguirre Murillo from Honduras was also apprehended, with charges ranging from rape to intimidation of a witness. Despite a history of criminal activity in both Massachusetts and Iowa, his previous detainer had not been honored. Brazilian national Luciano Pereira De Oliveira, facing charges related to child pornography and aggravated rape, was similarly released before being taken into custody during the operation.

Other notable arrests included Jose Wilfredo Lopez-Martin from Guatemala, charged with assault with dangerous weapons, and Graviel Nolasco, also from Guatemala, who had multiple prior removals and a history of domestic violence offenses. Haitian national Senat Dufren, Ecuadorians Jose Luis Ledezma and Jefferson Adrian Patin Quinaloa, were detained on various charges such as assault, driving under the influence, and robbery-related offenses, with multiple detainers previously unacknowledged.

According to DHS, all individuals arrested during Operation Patriot are being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings or prosecution. The agency reiterated that sanctuary policies prevented earlier actions that might have removed these individuals before they reoffended.
