A Guatemalan national residing in Pennsylvania has been sentenced to eight months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Judge Keli M. Neary in Harrisburg, following an investigation that identified the individual’s unlawful presence in the country.

Elvis Alfonso Lopez-Perez, 32, had previously been removed from the United States on February 1, 2013. Despite his removal, he reentered the country without authorization at an undetermined time. Authorities discovered Lopez-Perez in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on May 28, 2024, during a routine enforcement action. He lacked legal permission to reenter or remain in the United States.

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a national initiative led by the Department of Justice. The program focuses on countering illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and enhancing community safety by coordinating resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
