Pizza Hut has introduced a new digital tool aimed at encouraging children’s literacy over the summer. The company announced the launch of the first-ever BOOK IT! app, offering families a platform to track reading progress and set goals. As part of the revitalized “BOOK IT! Summer of Stories™” program beginning June 1, children can earn free Personal Pan Pizzas® by meeting their reading targets during the summer break.

The app targets the issue known as the “Summer Slide,” a decline in reading skills that can cause students to lose the equivalent of two years of learning by middle school. Designed for students from Pre-K through sixth grade, the app enables parents to create personalized monthly reading goals based on their child’s abilities. Achieving these goals each month from June through August allows children to receive a free Personal Pan Pizza® at participating locations.

Pizza Hut’s latest initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize its long-standing BOOK IT! program, which has encouraged reading since 1984. The program has reached over 70 million children, offering more than 1.5 billion free Personal Pan Pizzas® in its history. The new app represents the first major digital evolution of the program, providing a convenient and engaging way for families to maintain literacy development during summer months.
