Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem stated that the department is thoroughly examining whether Soliman’s family provided any support or had prior knowledge of the attack. The detainees include Soliman’s wife, 41-year-old Hayam Salah Alsaid Ahmed Elgamal, his 18-year-old daughter Habiba Mohamed Sabry Farag Soliman, and his four minor children. All are Egyptian citizens. Soliman, along with his family, originally entered the United States on August 27, 2022, and was authorized to stay until February 26, 2023. In September 2022, he filed for asylum in Denver, listing his wife and children as dependents.
Soliman is accused of carrying out an attack on June 1 at Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, where he allegedly used a makeshift flame thrower and an incendiary device during a public gathering. Witnesses reported that Soliman shouted “Free Palestine” during the assault. Eight individuals, aged between 52 and 88, were hospitalized. Boulder police, with assistance from the FBI, apprehended Soliman within minutes. Authorities have classified the incident as a targeted act of terrorism.
