The arrest comes amid heightened concerns over repeated threats against the President’s safety, including a shooting incident in 2024 and recent inflammatory rhetoric from public figures.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, 54-year-old Ramon Morales-Reyes sent a handwritten letter to an ICE field intelligence officer on May 21, vowing to shoot President Trump in the head at an upcoming rally before returning to Mexico. The following day, ICE agents took Morales-Reyes into custody in Wisconsin. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed the arrest and emphasized the gravity of the threat.
Morales-Reyes, who is currently being held at Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin, has a long history of illegal entry into the United States, having crossed the border unlawfully at least nine times between 1998 and 2005. His criminal history includes felony hit and run, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier.

The suspect will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings. Secretary Noem called on media and political figures to reconsider their rhetoric in light of ongoing threats to the President, stating her continued commitment to safeguarding President Trump.
