The target of the operation, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, has been accused of several violent offenses, including strangulation, suffocation, battery, and domestic abuse. Federal authorities say Ruiz has twice entered the United States illegally and was subject to removal proceedings. During the April 18 arrest attempt, officials allege that Judge Hannah Dugan intentionally misdirected ICE agents in an effort to prevent Ruiz’s apprehension.
Despite the judge’s alleged actions, FBI agents successfully located and detained Ruiz following a brief pursuit. The federal agencies involved have stated that the individual has now been removed from the community, and the Department of Homeland Security has reiterated its commitment to pursuing those who break immigration and criminal laws.
