In conjunction with the report’s release, Secretary Rollins highlighted recent efforts by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to align federal nutrition programs with the Commission’s goals. Governors across the country are being encouraged to submit waivers to adjust Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) policies to better promote healthy eating. Nebraska became the first state to secure a waiver removing soda and energy drinks from SNAP eligibility, a move Rollins described as a model for other states to follow.
Private sector partners are also responding to the administration’s call for nutritional reform. Secretary Rollins announced that the USDA has reached voluntary agreements with America’s dairy producers to eliminate artificial colors in school food products by the 2026-2027 academic year. Tyson Foods has similarly committed to removing petroleum-based food dyes from its products by the end of May.

Further collaboration between Secretary Rollins and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is shaping the forthcoming Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs). These guidelines, currently under revision, are intended to provide clear and practical federal dietary advice. They will emphasize the consumption of whole foods—such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meats—while recommending limits on sugar- and salt-heavy items.
