Michelin North America has issued a recall for 6,888 AGILIS Cross Climate DT tires following internal testing that revealed the products fail to meet federal safety standards. The tires, manufactured between September 24, 2023, and April 26, 2025, exhibited tread chunking during endurance testing, indicating they do not comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 571.139 S.6.3 for light vehicle tires.

According to a safety recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect affects 100% of the identified tire population. The issue was detected during Michelin’s routine internal surveillance tests, which revealed inconsistencies in tread durability. The tires, produced in France and tested in South Carolina, showed significant rubber chunking at the base of the shoulder blocks, a defect that can increase the risk of a crash if the tires are used on the road.
Although Michelin has not received any customer complaints or returns related to this issue, the company initiated a comprehensive investigation after test anomalies surfaced in March 2025. Additional testing was performed using expedited shipments of new tires, and a formal decision confirming non-compliance was made on May 7, 2025.

Michelin has implemented warehouse blocks to prevent further distribution of the affected tires within the United States and has halted their production. While a specific replacement product is currently unavailable, the company plans to provide a refund or a suitable replacement from a competitor. Details of the remedy program, along with a reimbursement plan and a phased recall schedule, will be included in a forthcoming amendment to the original recall report.
