A woman was arrested earlier this week after attempting to smuggle fentanyl into the United States by concealing the drugs inside her body. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Paso Del Norte international crossing in El Paso, Texas, discovered the narcotics during a secondary inspection on May 7. The suspect, a 40-year-old U.S. citizen, was found to be hiding a drug-filled package in her vaginal cavity, a method authorities described as extremely hazardous.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. when the woman was referred for further screening by CBP officers. During the inspection, she admitted to having a foreign object internally concealed. Medical personnel at a local facility confirmed the presence of the package and safely removed it. The bundle contained approximately 113 grams of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid often linked to overdose deaths.
Officials emphasized the serious risks associated with internal smuggling. The packaging of such drugs can rupture during transport, posing a significant threat to the individual’s life. No other illegal items were found during the woman’s subsequent examination.

Following the medical procedure, the woman was returned to the port of entry and formally taken into custody. She was handed over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents and is expected to face federal charges related to drug smuggling. The case remains under investigation.
