Evans was apprehended during a law enforcement raid on a Morgantown apartment, where officers discovered him asleep alongside a loaded pistol. The search yielded more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, over 150 grams of fentanyl, cocaine, and three additional stolen firearms. Court records noted that Evans has previous convictions involving drugs and firearms.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda Wesley and was investigated by the Mon Metro Drug Task Force, a coordinated law enforcement initiative funded through the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program. The task force draws personnel and support from federal, state, and local agencies, including the FBI, DEA, ATF, West Virginia State Police, and several local departments in Monongalia County.

This prosecution forms part of Operation Take Back America, a national effort led by the Department of Justice to dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations by leveraging combined resources from programs like OCDETF and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
