A West Virginia man is facing multiple federal charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor following an indictment by a grand jury in Maryland. Donald Robert Wilt Edwards, Sr., 29, formerly of Baltimore, has been charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, three counts of distribution of child sexual abuse material, and one count of possession of child pornography. Authorities allege that Edwards engaged in criminal activity while still residing in Baltimore and continued to possess illegal materials after relocating.

According to the indictment, Edwards coerced a minor male on June 13, 2024, into engaging in sexually explicit conduct, which he then recorded and distributed online. Investigators allege that Edwards used an internet-based account to share the visual material and was later found in possession of child sexual abuse content on a digital device. His charges stem from the combined efforts of the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office, the Baltimore Police Department, and the West Virginia State Police, working under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative.

If found guilty, Edwards faces significant federal prison time. Each count of sexual exploitation of a minor carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, while each distribution count carries a minimum of five years. Additionally, the possession charge could result in up to 20 years of imprisonment. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge in accordance with the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal considerations.

Authorities emphasized that an indictment is not a finding of guilt, and Edwards remains presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court. The Project Safe Childhood initiative, under which this case was brought, aims to combat the exploitation of children through coordinated federal, state, and local law enforcement efforts. The Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office also credited the assistance of the West Virginia Parole and Probation Office in the investigation.
