The 33-year-old man was driving a Hyundai Accent when agents from the Tucson Station stopped the vehicle for an immigration inspection. Inside were two women: a 29-year-old from Mexico and a 30-year-old from Uzbekistan. Both were determined to be in the U.S. illegally. The man himself lacked legal documentation to be in the country and was also taken into custody.

Further investigation at the Tucson Station revealed the Cuban man had been arrested by Border Patrol in 2023 near Brownsville, Texas. At that time, he claimed he feared persecution in Cuba and was released pending an immigration court date. Records also showed the Mexican woman had been previously removed from the United States multiple times and was prosecuted for immigration violations in October 2024.
