Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a voluntary recall affecting a small number of 2024 E-Class vehicles due to improperly tightened ground connection bolts, which could potentially lead to an increased fire risk. The defect involves 14 vehicles across three models, and while no incidents have been reported in the United States, the manufacturer is acting out of an abundance of caution.

The issue centers on the 12V and 48V ground connections, which may not have been fastened to the correct torque during production. This can result in the wiring harness not being properly secured, leading to increased electrical resistance. The resulting heat buildup poses a risk of fire, although no crashes, injuries, or property damage have been linked to the issue globally.
The vehicles involved in the recall include 11 units of the E 350 4MATIC, two units of the E 450 4MATIC, and one unit of the E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain, all manufactured between February 5 and May 27, 2024. Mercedes-Benz determined that other vehicles produced outside of this window are not affected due to updated production procedures ensuring the bolts were tightened correctly.

The problem was initially identified in October 2024 following field reports from outside the United States. A subsequent investigation revealed that a production deviation—linked to two workers—may have resulted in the issue. Mercedes-Benz conducted detailed reviews and determined on April 4, 2025, that a safety recall was necessary.
Owners will be notified of the recall before June 10, 2025, and repairs will be carried out free of charge at authorized dealerships. Vehicles still under warranty are eligible, and no reimbursement for prior repairs is expected since the condition would not have existed previously.
