The Crew-11 team includes NASA astronauts Zena Cardman as commander and Mike Fincke as pilot, along with Mission Specialist Kimiya Yui from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mission Specialist Oleg Platonov of Roscosmos. This will be Cardman’s first spaceflight after her selection as a NASA astronaut in 2017. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master’s in Marine Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cardman has contributed to real-time station operations and lunar exploration planning, bringing her geobiology expertise to the mission.
Fincke, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel with extensive spaceflight experience, will be making his fourth trip to the ISS. He previously participated in Expeditions 9 and 18 and the STS-134 mission in 2011, logging 382 days in space and completing nine spacewalks. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, Fincke has been involved in the development and testing of the SpaceX Dragon and Boeing Starliner spacecraft for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program.

Yui, a JAXA astronaut since 2009, will be embarking on his second mission to the space station. He previously served as a flight engineer for Expeditions 44 and 45, where he conducted 21 JAXA experiments and contributed to constructing a new experimental environment aboard Kibo. Yui, who graduated from the National Defense Academy of Japan, also served in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the Air Staff Office at the Ministry of Defense before being appointed chief of the JAXA Astronaut Group in 2016.
Platonov, a first-time space traveler, was selected as a Roscosmos cosmonaut in 2018. He holds degrees in Aircraft Operations and Air Traffic Management from Krasnodar Air Force Academy and in State and Municipal Management from Far Eastern Federal University in Russia. His extensive training includes piloting aircraft, zero gravity exercises, scuba diving, and survival skills.
The International Space Station has been home to continuous human presence for over 20 years, enabling groundbreaking scientific research and technological innovation that are impossible on Earth. It also serves as a critical testing ground for preparing for long-duration space missions beyond low Earth orbit. As private companies continue to provide human spaceflight services, NASA is advancing its Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and eventually facilitate exploration of Mars.
