Employees of the office have been placed on administrative leave effective immediately. The agency stated that the responsibilities previously handled by the office will be reassigned to other SSA components to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

According to Acting Commissioner Lee Dudek, the decision aligns with the administration’s broader objective of reducing duplicative functions and prioritizing essential work. The move is described as an effort to improve efficiency and enhance the agency’s ability to serve the public. While the office itself will be dissolved, SSA has assured that functions such as processing Equal Employment Opportunity complaints and reasonable accommodation requests will continue within other SSA departments.
