U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Birmingham, Alabama, intercepted 200,000 counterfeit U.S. Forever Stamps in a major operation at the Port of Birmingham. The stamps, originating from Hong Kong, had an estimated retail value of $146,000 and were seized at a local sorting facility after CBP officers identified suspicious packages for inspection.

During the inspection, officers determined that while the stamps appeared authentic, further analysis confirmed they were counterfeit, violating multiple Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) laws. CBP emphasized the economic harm caused by counterfeit goods, which negatively impact consumers, businesses, and the U.S. economy. Officers in Birmingham are trained to detect such violations to prevent fraudulent products from entering circulation.
China and Hong Kong have been the primary sources of counterfeit goods intercepted by CBP, accounting for about 90% of IPR-related seizures in fiscal year 2024. CBP continues working with Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Postal Inspectors to prevent the unlawful importation of counterfeit stamps and other fraudulent goods.
