The first recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-064, affects 33 units of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 manufactured at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia. The defect involves the rear floor wiring harness, which may have been improperly crimped at the rear side airbag connector terminal, potentially leading to an open circuit. This could prevent the airbag from deploying in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Owners may notice an illuminated airbag warning light as an indication of the issue. Hyundai plans to notify affected owners by April 7, 2025, and will inspect and, if necessary, replace the wiring harness at no cost.
The second recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-065, pertains to 1,508 units of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 “N” performance variant produced in Korea. The issue stems from the Left-Foot Braking (LFB) feature, which allows drivers to use both the accelerator and brake pedals simultaneously for track driving. A software error in the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system may trigger depressurization of the ABS, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash. Unlike the wiring harness issue, there are no warning signs prior to the defect occurring. Hyundai has advised owners to avoid using the LFB feature until a software update is applied at dealerships.

Hyundai has committed to notifying dealers and owners of both recalls by April 7, 2025. Remedial actions, including part replacements and software updates, will be performed free of charge. Additionally, the automaker will offer reimbursements for any prior related repairs. Production changes have already been implemented to address these defects, with improved wiring inspections for the standard IONIQ 5 and a revised software update for the IONIQ 5 “N” since January 2025.
