Mercedes-Benz USA has announced a recall affecting 7,362 of its EQB electric SUVs from model years 2022 to 2024 due to a potential fire risk associated with the high-voltage battery. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-050, impacts three variants: EQB 250, EQB 300 4MATIC, and EQB 350 4MATIC. The issue stems from a possible internal short circuit in the battery, which could occur under certain conditions, including exposure to electric current ripples during charging or mechanical damage to the battery.

The defect was initially investigated following reports of fire incidents outside the United States, primarily in China. Mercedes-Benz AG, in coordination with the battery supplier, Farasis Energy (Ganzhou) Co. Ltd., conducted extensive analysis beginning in mid-2024. While no single root cause was identified, the company determined that a combination of battery production variations and external factors could increase the likelihood of thermal incidents. As a precautionary measure, the automaker decided to issue a global recall on January 24, 2025.
