DHS has classified this year’s Super Bowl as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1 event, indicating a high-level security concern requiring extensive federal support. While there are no known specific threats related to the game, officials emphasize the ongoing heightened threat environment, citing recent security incidents such as the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans. Various DHS agencies are providing resources, from counterterrorism efforts to cybersecurity, to safeguard attendees and critical infrastructure.
Among the key agencies involved, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is enforcing flight restrictions, conducting surveillance, and inspecting cargo entering the stadium for contraband. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is working to combat counterfeit merchandise sales and coordinating law enforcement resources. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has been conducting vulnerability assessments and will have emergency communications coordinators on-site. Other DHS agencies, including the Coast Guard, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office, are providing additional support.

In addition to direct security efforts, DHS is raising awareness about human trafficking through its Blue Campaign, targeting industries like hospitality and transportation where employees may identify potential victims. The campaign is also working with Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to train staff on recognizing and reporting trafficking-related activities. TSA has increased staffing at the airport to handle the surge in post-game departures, deploying additional screening officers and explosive detection canine teams.
The federal agency urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, reinforcing its “If You See Something, Say Something®” initiative. DHS will continue monitoring security developments throughout the event and will provide updates as necessary.
