Kia America, Inc. has announced a recall involving 74,469 vehicles from the 2024-2025 Sorento lineup, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. A software glitch in the Body Domain Control Unit (BDC) could result in momentary loss of low-beam headlamp and tail lamp illumination during operation. This poses a potential safety risk by decreasing visibility and increasing the likelihood of a crash.

The affected vehicles include 2024-2025 Kia Sorento models manufactured between December 7, 2023, and September 18, 2024, at Kia Georgia. Additionally, 2025 Sorento Hybrid models built from March 4, 2024, to July 18, 2024, and 2025 Sorento Plug-In Hybrids assembled from April 2, 2024, to June 19, 2024, at Kia Autoland Hwaseong are also part of the recall. The issue stems from a software logic error in the BDC that interrupts the illumination of critical lighting systems under specific conditions.
To address this problem, Kia plans to notify owners by February 21, 2025, via first-class mail. Dealers will update the software in the affected BDC units free of charge. For customers who have already incurred repair expenses, reimbursement will be provided under Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan.
