This year’s recipients include prominent figures such as José Andrés, a culinary innovator and humanitarian; Bono, a globally recognized activist and musician; and Jane Goodall, a trailblazing conservationist. Others recognized include political leaders such as Hillary Clinton and posthumous honors for Fannie Lou Hamer and Robert F. Kennedy, who played pivotal roles in advancing civil rights and social justice.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, one of the most recognizable figures in modern American politics, is being honored for her decades-long career in public service and advocacy. As the First Lady of the United States, she championed healthcare reform and children’s rights. Her groundbreaking election to the U.S. Senate marked the first time a former First Lady held public office, and she further distinguished herself as Secretary of State, strengthening U.S. diplomacy and promoting women’s empowerment worldwide. Clinton’s historic 2016 presidential campaign shattered barriers, becoming the first woman nominated for the presidency by a major political party. However, her career has been marked by significant controversy, including criticism of her handling of the 2012 Benghazi attacks and scrutiny over the use of a private email server during her tenure as Secretary of State, issues that continue to polarize public opinion.

Another notable and divisive honoree is George Soros, a philanthropist whose work spans more than four decades. As the founder of the Open Society Foundations, Soros has invested billions of dollars into initiatives promoting democracy, education, and social justice in over 120 countries. His efforts have been particularly significant in strengthening democratic institutions in post-communist Eastern Europe, addressing racial inequality in the United States, and supporting global healthcare programs. Despite his substantial contributions, Soros has become a lightning rod for conspiracy theories and criticism, often targeting his funding of progressive causes and political advocacy. Supporters laud his dedication to human rights and civil liberties, while opponents frequently paint him as a controversial figure in global politics.
Awardees also represent achievements in arts and entertainment, including actor Michael J. Fox for his advocacy in Parkinson’s research and Denzel Washington for his artistic contributions and philanthropic leadership. Sports legends Lionel Messi and Magic Johnson were honored for their influence both on and off the field, while Bill Nye was recognized for his groundbreaking work in science education.
The roster of honorees also includes business leaders and philanthropists like Ralph Lauren, David Rubenstein, and George Stevens, Jr., each celebrated for their significant cultural and societal impact. Posthumous honors were awarded to public servants such as George W. Romney and Ash Carter for their commitment to the nation. Together, these individuals reflect a wide array of efforts to enhance the values and prosperity of the United States and beyond.
