Team Rubicon Mobilizes for Hurricane Response Efforts Across the Southeast

NATIONAL NEWS (10/8/2024) – In the wake of Hurricane Helene and with the impending landfall of Hurricane Milton, Team Rubicon, a veteran-led humanitarian organization, has launched a series of emergency response operations to support communities throughout the Southeast. These operations, focused on expedient home repairs, clean-up, and route clearance, are provided entirely free of charge to the disaster survivors they serve.

Response to Hurricane Helene

Team Rubicon’s response efforts to Hurricane Helene have been concentrated in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. In the aftermath of Helene, volunteers—known as “Greyshirts”—have been deployed to affected areas, working to provide critical support such as muck-outs, roof tarping, and debris removal.

In Florida’s Pasco County, operations were temporarily paused to ensure the safety of volunteers ahead of Hurricane Milton. Meanwhile, Greyshirts in Coffee County, Georgia, are continuing to assist with clean-up and repair efforts, with additional operations underway in Berrien, Richmond, and Columbia Counties.

South Carolina’s Aiken and Greenwood Counties have also seen active response efforts, with Team Rubicon volunteers focusing on home repairs and clean-up. In North Carolina, volunteers have been deployed to Asheville, where they are assisting with water distribution and road debris removal. Additional response operations are underway in Buncombe and Mecklenburg Counties.

In Tennessee’s Greene County, efforts are focused on similar repair and clean-up tasks, while in Virginia’s Washington County, Team Rubicon is exploring ways to assist with donation and volunteer management.

Preparing for Hurricane Milton

As Hurricane Milton approaches the Gulf Coast of Florida, Team Rubicon is preparing to scale up operations once again. Route clearance teams are pre-staged outside the predicted path of the storm to ensure they can rapidly clear access roads for first responders and residents after the hurricane’s landfall. These preparations are taking place even as the organization continues its response to the devastation left by Hurricane Helene.

Team Rubicon is calling for increased resources as they ready to support the communities expected to be impacted by Milton. The organization remains committed to providing timely, effective disaster response and has received crucial support from partners like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, which has helped to fund these critical operations.
