Marsh commended the team for their professionalism and dedication, which he noted were essential to the ongoing success of Fort Detrick’s mission.

The ceremony’s reviewing officer, Mr. Davis Tindoll, Director of the Installation Management Command Sustainment Directorate, praised Marsh’s leadership. Tindoll highlighted Marsh’s ability to see opportunities where others saw challenges. “In today’s uncertain environment, where others saw challenge, he saw opportunity,” Tindoll remarked. He acknowledged Marsh’s significant contributions to the Army’s priorities of people, readiness, and modernization, emphasizing the positive impact of his leadership on both the garrison and the broader Fort Detrick community.

Under Marsh’s command, the Fort Detrick team achieved several milestones, which Tindoll noted had a lasting impact. “His dedication and strategic vision have significantly contributed to the Army’s priorities of people, readiness, and modernization. Under his command, his team has achieved notable milestones that have positively impacted not only the garrison but the Fort Detrick community at large.”

As Col. Marsh passed the mantle of leadership to Col. Chung, Tindoll expressed confidence in the new commander’s capabilities. “He is no stranger to the art and science of leadership. I am certain that you will build on the successes of your predecessors. The challenges are many, but I am confident you will bring great energy and excellence to this installation,” Tindoll said.

Col. Christopher Chung, the new garrison commander, addressed the attendees with heartfelt gratitude. He thanked his family, including his parents who joined the ceremony virtually, and his wife, Col. Kathy Chung, and their sons. Drawing inspiration from sports, Chung likened his new role to that of a coach leading a team. He shared a quote from the legendary college basketball coach John Wooden, who believed in the value of hard work and doing one’s best to realize a team’s potential.

“The iconic college basketball coach John Wooden, who won 10 national championships in 12 years at UCLA, was a believer that hard work and truly doing your best pays dividends with the guaranteed dividend being the confidence that you did everything in your power to bring forth the greater team’s potential,” Chung stated. “I look forward to giving you my best and working with you to bring forth the potential of this organization and this family to fulfill Installation Management Command’s vision of being ‘the Army’s Home’ and achieving this at Fort Detrick together.”
