SMITHSBURG, MD News (5/28/2024) – Smithsburg High School’s Ryan Myers has been honored as the 2024 Maryland State Athletic Director of the Year by the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association (MSADA). This prestigious accolade recognizes an athletic administrator who has significantly impacted students’ lives and utilized athletics to foster progress in the social and cultural environment of both the school and the community.

Nominees for this award must be active MSADA members and have received a District Athletic Director of the Year Award within the past three years. Myers, who was recognized as the District 1A Athletic Director of the Year in 2023, has been serving as the athletic director at Smithsburg High School since 2018. Prior to this role, he was the athletic director at South Hagerstown High School from 2016 to 2018.

WCPS Superintendent of Schools David Sovine praised Myers for his dedication and excellence. “I want to extend my congratulations to Mr. Myers for being recognized as the top athletic director in the state. Extracurricular activities, particularly athletics, provide students with the opportunity to learn skills that are important to success such as the value of teamwork, communication, and hard work. Mr. Myers exemplifies all those skills and is dedicated to each of the students, coaches, parents, and staff he encounters through his work. He represents his school and WCPS well.”

Myers’ contributions to the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) are extensive. He has served as the MPSSAA 1A West Boys’ Basketball Region Director since 2022 and the MPSSAA 1A West Girls’ Soccer Region Director since 2018. He is also a member of the MPSSAA State Soccer Committee and was part of the MPSSAA Sportsmanship Task Force from 2018 to 2022. In July 2022, Myers was a presenter at the Maryland Center for School Safety on the topic of After School Event Management and Security.
