Indictment Issued for FBI Informant Alleging False Statements on Biden-Burisma Connection

In a recent development, the Justice Department announced charges against Alexander Smirnov, a 43-year-old FBI confidential source, for felony false statement and obstruction crimes. Smirnov’s indictment by a federal grand jury in the Central District of California followed his arrest at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to the indictment, Smirnov allegedly provided misleading information to FBI agents in June 2020, claiming that officials from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid President Biden and his son Hunter Biden $5 million each in 2015 or 2016. It’s worth noting that the indictment doesn’t explicitly name the Bidens.

Smirnov, who assumed the role of an FBI “Confidential Human Source” in 2010, is accused of reporting these alleged fabrications about the Bidens in June 2020. The indictment suggests that Smirnov’s routine business contacts with Burisma in 2017, after the Obama-Biden Administration, were transformed into bribery allegations against President Biden. This transformation occurred when President Biden had no capacity to influence U.S. policy.

The indictment also includes Smirnov’s claim that Burisma officials hired Hunter Biden to protect them through his father from potential problems.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Weiss as special counsel last August to lead the investigation into Hunter Biden related to tax charges.
