SHARPSBURG, MD News (8/8/2023) – In late August 2023, Captain Benders Tavern, a beloved local restaurant, will welcome America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) for their ABR Roadshow visit. ABR will showcase the tavern’s popular dishes and interview owner Steve Kemmet about its significance in the community. The episode will be extensively aired on social media channels at a later date.
Founded in 1936 by Captain Raleigh Benders, the tavern holds the county’s oldest continuous liquor license, spanning 87 years. Since Kemmet took over fifteen years ago, the establishment has gained tremendous support from locals and tourists visiting the nearby historic Antietam National Battlefield.
The tavern offers delicious locally inspired items such as the “Antietam Reubin Panini” and the “Hub City Salad”, regional items such as “Chicken Baltimore”, and even specialty items such as “Steve’s Spicy Pickles”.
Along with the delicious food available at Captain Benders, Kemmet offers fiery delights to patrons who enjoy a balance of heat and flavor, boasting heat levels of 1500 – 1800 Scovilles in their house-made sauces.
The restaurant will announce the episode’s premiere date on their Facebook page and America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
