Washington County toddler found safe after large number of volunteers show up to assist in search
A missing 2-year-old has been located safe, authorities said early Saturday morning.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office earlier asked the public for help after the child disappeared. Officials said they were grateful for the large number of residents who volunteered and for the strong community response.
The office asked people not to search on their own, saying uncoordinated efforts could interfere with K-9 tracking and other organized operations. Residents were asked to check outbuildings and vehicles on their own property and not to leave it.
Volunteers who wanted to help were directed to report to the local Mount Aetna Fire Department, where they were organized into groups and paired with law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.
The boy was found shortly after midnight.
