Washington D.C. – A citizen of Slovakia residing in the United States as a green card holder has been arrested for allegedly registering to vote and casting a ballot in federal elections in New Jersey while falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) took the individual into custody on July 1st.

The suspect, identified as Marian Charitun, is accused of registering to vote in New Jersey by falsely stating he was a United States citizen. Charitun is now facing federal charges for two alleged offenses: illegally voting in a federal election and making false statements during his application for U.S. citizenship. These charges stem from an investigation by HSI New Jersey, conducted in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and USCIS.
