A congressional task force is set to convene a public hearing to delve into the controversial MKULTRA experiments conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The hearing, organized by the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, will examine the history and classification of these mind-control programs, scrutinizing how they aligned with the CIA’s mandate to protect national security. Furthermore, the session will address the intelligence community’s alleged reluctance to declassify information pertaining to MKULTRA and the subsequent impact of this lack of transparency on public trust in federal institutions.

The “Mind Control and Accountability: Uncovering the Truth of the CIA’s MKULTRA Experiments” hearing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. EST, in Room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building. This public session is designed to bring to light the historical context of MKULTRA, investigate its effects on the well-being of American citizens, and explore pathways for the intelligence community to regain public confidence.
Scheduled to testify at the hearing are Stephen Kinzer, a Senior Fellow in International and Public Affairs at Brown University, and Tom O’Neill, an investigative journalist and author of “Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties.” The proceedings will be open to the public and will also be made available via livestream for those unable to attend in person.
