In addition to reviewing proposed calendar adjustments for the current school year, the Board will receive updates on a range of critical initiatives. These include discussions on comprehensive math plans, outcomes from the 2026 legislative session, and the ongoing implementation of student service learning hour requirements. These topics are central to the state’s educational strategy and will likely impact curriculum development, student engagement, and compliance with state mandates.

A significant portion of the meeting will be dedicated to recognizing educational achievements in literacy. In observance of National Reading Month, five schools will be honored for their exemplary commitment to high-quality literacy instruction. These institutions distinguished themselves through exceptional participation in the SUNY New Paltz Science of Reading microcredential course, with more than 70 percent of their staff successfully completing the training and achieving a passing rate of 70 percent or higher. This focus on literacy instruction underscores the state’s dedication to enhancing reading skills across all grade levels.

Furthermore, the meeting will feature a stakeholder engagement session centered on the initiative “Arts Education in Maryland Schools.” This session provides an opportunity for various stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing dialogue and development of arts education policies and programs throughout the state, emphasizing the importance of the arts in a well-rounded education.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the Board’s proceedings through public comment, available both in person and virtually. However, registration for public comment is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 15 individuals permitted to speak. Up to 10 slots are available in the morning session and five in the afternoon. Registration will close on Friday, March 20, at 11:59 p.m., and interested individuals must complete an online form to register. Those who successfully register will be notified, and comments are strictly limited to three minutes per speaker. The complete agenda for the meeting and a livestream of the proceedings will be accessible online.
