SCRANTON, PA – Reneard Harris, a 67-year-old resident of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to drug trafficking offenses, according to an announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The indictment details allegations of Harris distributing or possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine base on three separate occasions in Luzerne County between February 18, 2026, and March 3, 2026. Notably, at the time of these alleged offenses, Harris was reportedly on pre-trial release for another federal drug trafficking case.
The investigation into these charges was a collaborative effort involving the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney James M. Buchanan is leading the prosecution of this case. If convicted, Harris faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, followed by a term of supervised release, and a fine. The ultimate sentence will be determined by a judge, taking into account federal sentencing statutes and guidelines. It is important to note that indictments and criminal informations are formal accusations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
