Throughout Franklin County, a contingent of 24 volunteers actively supports the Red Cross’s multifaceted mission. Their efforts are crucial in providing essential services such as emergency shelter, food, and comfort to those affected by home fires or natural disasters. Beyond disaster relief, these volunteers are instrumental in the continuous collection of blood donations, vital for accident victims, complex surgeries, and organ transplant recipients. Furthermore, the Red Cross offers significant support to U.S. service members, veterans, and their families, providing a critical lifeline of assistance and care.
The impact of the Red Cross’s work in Franklin County is evident in recent statistics. Since July, the organization has responded to nine disaster events, offering aid to 54 individuals. In the same period, their blood drives successfully collected 2,674 units of blood. The commitment to community safety is further underscored by the installation of over 120 free smoke alarms. Additionally, the Red Cross has provided assistance in 43 cases involving armed forces personnel. Across the broader 11-county Central Pennsylvania Chapter, Red Cross volunteers collectively contributed more than 198,000 hours of service in 2025, demonstrating a profound dedication to community well-being.
