The investigation into Heaven Bound Crematory began on February 10, 2025, when the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office contacted the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division. This outreach followed the discovery of routine regulatory inspection violations by state inspectors. The State’s Attorney’s Office then requested a criminal investigation by the Maryland State Police to determine if any related criminal violations had occurred.
Maryland State Police investigators subsequently initiated a criminal inquiry. On February 20, 2025, authorities executed search warrants at the crematorium’s business location at 4445 Crain Highway in White Plains, as well as a residence in Bensville, Maryland. During the search of the Bensville residence, investigators reportedly located a significant amount of evidence, including documents, business records, cremated human remains, and multiple decomposing cadavers. The subsequent intensive investigation has focused on identifying the human remains, notifying their families, and documenting additional evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
Residents in Charles County and surrounding areas who have used the services of this crematorium are advised to monitor upcoming announcements from law enforcement and the State’s Attorney’s Office for further information regarding the investigation and potential next steps.
