Individuals wishing to run for office must file a notarized Certificate of Announcement. These forms can be obtained directly from Shepherdstown Town Hall, located at 104 North King Street, or by downloading them from the town’s official website. Completed certificates can be submitted in person at Town Hall or via U.S. Postal Service mail to P.O. Box 248, Shepherdstown, WV 25443. For mailed submissions, it is crucial that the certificate is postmarked no later than the final day of the filing period, March 13, 2026.
To be eligible to file for candidacy, individuals must meet specific requirements. These include being a registered voter in the municipality, a citizen of the United States, and at least 18 years of age. Furthermore, candidates must be residents of Shepherdstown and must not have been convicted of a felony or be otherwise disqualified from holding office under applicable law.
