The revised procedure, effective immediately, modifies how documents are processed after attorneys and litigants present their cases in custody matters typically held on Thursday mornings. Previously, the handling of these filings involved distinct steps, but the new protocol seeks to consolidate and clarify the workflow for court staff, legal representatives, and individuals representing themselves.
Under the updated system, after a case is presented to the presiding judge, a designated court staff member will collect the filed documents. This staff member, under the judge’s direction, will then accompany the involved parties—whether legal counsel or self-represented litigants—to the Court Administration office. The purpose of this step is to secure an official conciliation date from Court Administration staff. Once the conciliation date is confirmed and recorded, the court staff will proceed to the Prothonotary’s office. There, the filings will be officially processed to complete the legal filing requirements, and the original file will be permanently lodged with the Prothonotary. Following the completion of these administrative tasks, the court staff will return to the location where custody conciliation cases are being heard to continue assisting the court in the collection and delivery of custody case paperwork, as detailed in the new memorandum.
This change is intended to create a more efficient and organized system for managing custody case documents, ensuring that all necessary steps are completed promptly and accurately after each presentation. The objective is to facilitate a smoother process for all involved parties in the Franklin County court system.
For any inquiries regarding this new procedure, individuals are encouraged to contact District Court Administrator Rebekah Reigner at 717-261-3848. The 39th Judicial District encompasses Franklin County and is located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
