Adults can engage their minds and spirits with several unique offerings. Book Bingo, scheduled for January 22 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, provides a playful opportunity to win new books. For those who enjoy literary discussions, the Book Club meets on January 23 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, inviting participants to read and discuss a different book each month; details on the current selection are available at the library’s front desk.
Wellness is also a focus with Chair Yoga sessions on the second and fourth Fridays of the month, beginning at 12:00 PM and concluding at 1:00 PM. Led by Sandra from Focused Action Yoga, these classes are designed for all skill levels and require advance registration. Intellectual curiosity can be satisfied at Socrates Cafe, which convenes on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. This global discussion group fosters thoughtful exchanges on philosophical questions with mutual respect.
Financial literacy is addressed through the “Edward Jones Money Talks” series on January 13 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Guest speaker Frank Pinto of Edward Jones will cover timely financial topics, with specific themes to be announced on the library’s calendar at ahmfl.org. Craft enthusiasts can join the “Hooks & Needles” group on January 8 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This casual gathering, held in Jane’s Tea Room, is for anyone working on a crafting project, offering a chance to share skills and learn new techniques.
Creative expression is encouraged with the “Paint & Sip: Very Valentine” event on January 27 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. For a fee of $15 per person, participants will learn to create a folk art heart painting under the guidance of Selena Hill. All supplies are provided, and the library will offer sparkling cider and refreshments. Registration is required for this event, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
For younger patrons, the library is hosting several activities tailored for teens aged 12 to 18. The Anime Club meets on January 14 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, welcoming fans of anime, manga, and character creation for discussions, viewings, and Japanese culture-themed activities. No sign-up is required for this club. Another social event for teens is the “Teen Game Night” on January 28 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This event encourages participants to bring their favorite board games, card games, or other gaming materials for an evening of fun. As with the Anime Club, no advance registration is necessary for Teen Game Night.
The library also offers programs that promote safety and awareness. “WIN Awareness Program: Recognizing Abuse in Your Teen” will be held on January 15 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Gayle Johnson, a Prevention Educator with WIN Victim Services, will provide parents and guardians with information on identifying signs of abuse in teenagers. Registration is recommended for this important session.
For those interested in strategic thinking and historical engagement, the “Gamesboro Gaming Group” meets on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This adults-only group explores history through strategy board games. Additionally, the Chess Club, suitable for ages 9 and up, gathers on the first Saturday of the month from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Parents must accompany players under 12. Instruction for beginners will be provided, covering basic moves and strategy. Participants are encouraged to bring their own chess sets, though extras will be available.
