The Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library (AHMFL) in Waynesboro has been selected to receive a prestigious 2025 PA Forward® Adult Literacy Programming Award. This recognition celebrates the library’s commitment to integrating five essential literacies—basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial—into its community offerings. This marks the third time AHMFL has been acknowledged for its adult programming, having previously received awards for health literacy in 2022 and financial literacy in 2023.

AHMFL will be specifically honored with the 2025 Financial Literacy Award for its program titled “Retirement: Making Your Money Last.” This program is part of the library’s ongoing efforts to bolster financial literacy within the community, aligning with the Pennsylvania Library Association’s (PaLA) PA Forward® Initiative. The library has maintained its status as a Gold Star library for five consecutive years. The adult literacy awards, established in 2022, are judged by a panel of library representatives from across Pennsylvania.

The “Retirement: Making Your Money Last” program was led by librarian Gina Vitale and featured financial advisor Frank Pinto. Pinto, an Edward Jones financial advisor since 2009, relocated to Waynesboro from Harrisburg in 2022 and began offering financial programming at AHMFL in the fall of 2024. These sessions are designed to provide residents with valuable financial education and support the development of financially literate individuals. The library’s dedication to these programs underscores its role in empowering the community with essential life skills.

Julene Diaz, director of AHMFL, is slated to accept the 2025 Financial Literacy Award at the PaLA conference in Erie this October. Diaz will also serve as a presenter at the conference, sharing insights from the library’s successful programming initiatives. Additionally, AHMFL staff will receive their fifth consecutive Gold Star library award during a reception later this fall, presented by Rob Lesher, the PA Forward® Program Manager.
