According to Ford Motor Company, the company is initiating a safety recall for approximately 1,278 of its 2022 Ford F-150 light trucks due to a potential issue with the parking lamps. The affected vehicles, manufactured between March 11, 2022, and July 23, 2022, may not have received the correct software update or hardware for a previous recall, 22C22, which is also known under NHTSA recall number 22V-686. This defect could cause the parking lamps to flicker, failing to meet a federal safety standard requiring steady illumination.

The recall stems from an administrative error during the execution of a prior safety recall. Ford’s internal audit revealed that while some vehicles were recorded as having the remedy for recall 22C22/22V-686 completed, they may not have actually received the correct software or hardware. This discrepancy means the underlying condition, a flickering parking lamp, might still be present in these trucks. The flickering could occur in several scenarios: when the driver manually selects the “position lamp on” mode, when the “Headlamp On” mode is selected, or automatically when ambient light conditions trigger the “Night Mode” on the headlights.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified this issue as a potential safety risk, as a flickering parking lamp can fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, which governs lighting and associated equipment. The agency notes that a parking lamp that does not maintain steady illumination could increase the likelihood of a crash. The cause of the defect is attributed to an issue with the service tool used by dealerships. In some instances, the tool did not upload the correct software to the vehicle, even though it indicated successful completion of the recall procedure. Ford has stated it is unaware of any accidents or injuries linked to this specific issue.
Ford will notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail, beginning September 15, 2025, with notifications expected to be completed by September 19, 2025. Owners will be instructed to schedule an appointment at a Ford or Lincoln dealership. At the dealership, the Light Emitting Diode (LED) Control Module will be replaced, and a Body Control Module (BCM) new module initialization procedure will be performed using the Ford Diagnostic Service Tool (FDRS). Additionally, the BCM software will be updated to its latest version. These services will be provided at no cost to the owner.
For owners who may have already paid for the repair of this specific issue prior to the recall notification, Ford has a general reimbursement plan. Details regarding eligibility for reimbursement, in accordance with recall regulations, can be obtained through Ford’s recall plan on file with NHTSA. Ford’s system for checking vehicle eligibility by VIN is also scheduled to be searchable starting September 15, 2025. Consumers can also contact Ford’s toll-free line at 1-866-436-7332 or their local Ford or Lincoln dealer for more specific information about whether their vehicle is affected.
