According to a safety recall report submitted by Kia America, Inc. to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 200,000 Kia Telluride SUVs manufactured between late 2022 and September 2024 may have faulty door trim components that could detach while the vehicle is in motion. This issue affects model years 2023 through 2025 and is the result of insufficient adhesive application during manufacturing.

The problem centers around the exterior door belt molding face plates, which may become loose and ultimately fall off the vehicle due to poor bonding between the molding and its base. If this occurs while driving, the detached piece could become a road hazard, potentially increasing the risk of an accident for other vehicles. Owners may notice warning signs such as visible looseness, rattling, or wind noise prior to failure.
The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V494, affects 201,149 Telluride units, with Kia estimating that about 6% of those vehicles may exhibit the defect. Production of Telluride vehicles using the problematic molding began on October 3, 2022, and continued through September 18, 2024. The issue was traced back to a supplier error involving inadequate adhesive during assembly by South Korean manufacturer Saedong.

Kia has begun notifying dealerships as of July 29, 2025, and owners will start receiving recall notifications by mail beginning September 26, 2025. Affected vehicle owners are advised to take their SUV to a Kia dealership, where the door trim parts will be replaced with an upgraded version that includes a mechanical retention feature in addition to adhesive. For those who have already paid out-of-pocket for similar repairs, reimbursement is available under Kia’s general reimbursement plan filed in 2024. Vehicle identification numbers (VINs) associated with the recall will be searchable beginning August 11, 2025.
