General Motors has announced a recall of over 41,000 Cadillac LYRIQ vehicles from the 2023 and 2024 model years due to a defect in the driver video display. The issue could cause the display to intermittently go blank while the vehicle is in motion, raising concerns about the availability of critical safety information and increasing the risk of accidents.

The recall involves 38,058 vehicles from the 2024 model year and 3,318 vehicles from the 2023 model year. Manufacturing and software programming records were used to identify the affected population. Vehicles equipped with the latest video display module software are not included in the recall. General Motors initiated an investigation following an inquiry from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in February 2025, uncovering over 1,200 instances of the issue in vehicles not updated to the latest software.
Although no accidents or injuries related to the malfunction have been reported, the recall was deemed necessary by General Motors’ Safety Field Action Decision Authority on May 22, 2025. The malfunction impacts the instrument panel, rear-view camera, and other federally regulated features, all of which are critical for safe operation.

To resolve the issue, General Motors will update the video display control module software. Owners whose vehicles support wireless over-the-air updates can opt to receive the software fix remotely. Alternatively, all affected customers can visit a dealership for the update. Notification to dealers began on May 29, 2025, with owner notifications scheduled to start on July 14, 2025. Since all affected vehicles are still under warranty, no reimbursement program is being offered.
