A Huntington, West Virginia, man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison after being convicted of trafficking fentanyl in Randolph County. David Laquan McGowan, 41, received a 92-month prison sentence following an investigation that uncovered his distribution activities spanning from Huntington to Elkins.

Court documents revealed that McGowan, known by the alias “Drip,” was found in possession of over 40 grams of fentanyl. Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop during which a search uncovered fentanyl hidden in the ceiling of McGowan’s vehicle. He was also transporting methamphetamine at the time.
Following his prison term, McGowan will be subject to five years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner, and Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh handed down the sentence.

The investigation was carried out by the Mountain Region Drug Task Force, a program supported through funding by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) initiative. The case highlights continued federal efforts to curb the spread of illegal narcotics in West Virginia.
