Maryland Voter Integrity Group Announces Alliance with Only Citizens Vote Coalition

MARYLAND News (5/15/2024) – The Maryland Voter Integrity Group recently announced its alliance with the Only Citizens Vote Coalition, joining numerous national, state, and local organizations in a concerted effort to prevent noncitizen voting in the upcoming 2024 elections. This coalition is dedicated to the principle that only United States citizens should be permitted to vote in any American election, and that proof of citizenship must be mandatory for voter registration.

As a founding member of the coalition, the Maryland Voter Integrity Group emphasized its commitment to educating citizens about the importance of citizen-only voting and advocating for the implementation of laws and practices to prevent noncitizen registration and voting. The group has called on Congress to enact the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which aims to secure the 2024 elections from noncitizen participation.

Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) is the principal sponsor of the SAVE Act in the House. He stated, “Secure elections are a key cornerstone for any representative government; without them, we won’t have a country. Radical progressive Democrats know this and are using open border policies while also attacking election integrity laws to fundamentally remake America. That’s why I am proud to introduce the SAVE Act with Speaker Johnson and my Republican colleagues, along with the invaluable support of citizens and organizations that recognize we must end the practice of non-citizens voting in our elections.”

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has announced his intention to introduce a companion bill in the Senate. He emphasized, “Voting is both a sacred right and responsibility of American citizenship, and allowing the people of other nations access to our elections is a grave blow to our security and self-governance.”

The Only Citizens Vote Coalition is mobilizing American citizens and leaders to ensure that only American citizens’ voices are heard at the ballot box. The coalition is urging American citizens, congressional leaders, state legislators, local election officials, and law enforcement to take action to end noncitizen voting.

The SAVE Act proposes amendments to the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, requiring the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Commissioner of Social Security to provide states with information needed to verify the citizenship status of voter registration applicants. The act would also mandate the removal of noncitizens from voter rolls and enforce proof of citizenship for voter registration.

Representative Roy highlighted the urgency of the act, stating, “As we approach the 2024 elections, the American people must have absolute certainty in the integrity of our election system. This bill would fortify federal elections by ensuring that only American citizens vote in American elections.”

Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his support, saying, “Illegal immigrants and non-citizens across the nation are being improperly registered to vote, allowing them to cast illegitimate ballots in federal elections. At a time when trust in voting is more important than ever, we must stop foreign election interference and pass the SAVE Act.”

The proposed legislation has garnered support from several Republican representatives, including Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Brian Babin (TX-36), Jim Banks (IN-3), and many others, all advocating for the exclusive right of American citizens to participate in federal elections.
