The Maryland State Board of Education is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, February 24, at 9 a.m. in Baltimore. During this meeting, the Board will cast votes on the adoption of a new health education framework and establish official positions on various bills currently under consideration in the state’s legislative session. The agenda also includes discussions and potential recommendations regarding homework guidance, focusing on the involvement of families, and will feature updates concerning the state’s teacher workforce.

In recognition of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, the Board will also highlight Maryland’s advancements in apprenticeship programs and Career-Connected Learning initiatives. Furthermore, the meeting will include a preview of statewide guidance concerning the integration of Artificial Intelligence. A stakeholder engagement session with the Maryland Association of Boards of Education is also slated to take place.
The public has the opportunity to provide comment during the meeting, either in person or virtually. Registration for public comment is required and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of 15 participants. Ten spots are allocated for the morning session and five for the afternoon. Individuals who register after the maximum capacity has been reached will be placed on a waiting list. The deadline to register for public comment is Friday, February 20, at 11:59 p.m. Those who are confirmed for public comment will be notified directly. Each speaker will be allotted three minutes for their comments, which will be monitored by staff. The complete meeting agenda and a livestream of the proceedings will be accessible online.
