The Maryland Car Rally Task Force, in conjunction with multiple law enforcement agencies, successfully dismantled six large-scale illegal car rallies over the weekend, resulting in two arrests. The operation, which began Sunday evening, targeted organized car meets, known as “Chipeos,” that were scheduled to take place on public roadways and in parking lots across Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Howard counties. High-visibility patrols were instrumental in preventing significant disruptions, including exhibition driving and the closure of roadways, that could have been caused by crowds of up to 100 participants.

The locations where the task force intervened to dismantle the illegal driving exhibitions included addresses in Bladensburg, Capitol Heights, Beltsville, Jessup, and Lanham. During these operations, law enforcement officers arrested Jareb Rivera, a 22-year-old resident of Lanham, Maryland. Rivera faces charges for possession of a loaded handgun within a vehicle, possession of a handgun within a vehicle, and possession of a handgun lacking a serial number. He has been taken to the Prince George’s County Detention Center awaiting a district court commissioner’s hearing.
Additionally, Reynaldo Prieto Gonzalez, 22, of Brooklyn, Maryland, was arrested in connection with two outstanding assault warrants issued in Baltimore City. He has also been transported to the Prince George’s County Detention Center, where he is awaiting a district court commissioner’s review. The Maryland Car Rally Task Force is a collaborative initiative involving the Maryland State Police and police departments from Prince George’s, Montgomery, Howard, and Baltimore counties, as well as the Baltimore City Police Department and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. This coordinated effort is considered essential for addressing the issue of illegal exhibition driving throughout the state.
