HAGERSTOWN, MD News (11/4/2022) – During the Tuesday, November 1 meeting of the Washington County Board of Education, local parent Ashley McCusker read during the citizen comment section of the meeting excerpts from several sexually explicit books in high schools across Washington County. There were a few brief, mixed reactions from the Board of Education during the meeting, with some members of the Board questioning the books’ presence in the schools. However, when contacted by Radio Free Hub City for further comment, none of the seven board members responded to our email.

Washington County Commissioners Appoint New Chief Financial Officer
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (10/27/2022) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners recently announced the appointment of Michelle Gordon as Chief Financial Officer.
Gordon is a lifelong resident of Washington County. After graduating from Williamsport High School in Williamsport, Maryland, she obtained her Bachelor of Science from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland and her Master’s of Business Administration from Mt. Saint Mary’s University School of Business in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Gordon comes to Washington County Government with over 30 years of finance and accounting experience and over 20 years of governmental accounting experience.
Washington County Commissioners Appoint New Airport Director
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (10/27/2022) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners recently announced the appointment of Neil Doran as Airport Director for Hagerstown Regional Airport.
Doran comes to Washington County Government with an extensive background in aviation. He became actively engaged in aviation studies in 2007 and began working full-time in the aviation sector in December 2013 as a Line Service Technician for Robinson Aviation. Doran then accepted an opportunity to manage Delta Airlines below-wing ramp operations at Hartford-Bradley International Airport.
Washington County Commissioners Approve New Business Development Director
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (10/28/2022) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners announces the promotion of Jonathan Horowitz to Director for the Department of Business Development. He will assume his role as director on October 31, 2022.
City of Hagerstown Unveils New Logo
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (10/26/2022) – Mayor Emily Keller revealed the symbol of the City of Hagerstown’s new brand at Tuesday night’s regular session.
The colorful logo, or mark, embodies the exciting direction in which the city is headed and provides a 21st century image it can use to market itself—something Hagerstown has never had.
Smithsburg Yard Waste Pickup Dates for Fall 2022
SMITHSBURG, MD News (10/18/2022) – Smithsburg will hold its monthly yard waste pickup on Wednesday, October 19th. Since the yard waste drivers will start at 3:20 a.m., Smithsburg residents should ensure that any yard waste is set early the evening beforehand. The Town of Smithsburg will host its monthly yard waste pickup two more times this year, on November 16 and December 21.
Smithsburg Traffic Line Painting Tonight
SMITHSBURG, MD News (9/29/2022) – Contractors will be line painting in the town’s limits this evening. The contractor has requested that residents park as close to the curb as possible this evening, to enable the contractor to paint the traffic lines.
City of Hagerstown Seeks Photos & Information for Creating Wheaton Park Historical Panels
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/26/2022) – The City of Hagerstown continues to move forward with the construction of Phase I of improvements at Wheaton Park. The master plan is based on the community input received earlier this year.
The project includes installing two historic panels to be located in the plaza, one about the park’s history and one about the house and its past tenants/caretakers. As part of that process, photos and information helping to detail and tell the story of both are being accepted now through Friday, October 21.
Washington County Public Training Center Opened with Ribbon Cutting
HAGERSTOWN, MD (9/21/2022) – On September 20, 2022, Washington County Government, Washington County Division of Emergency Services, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington County Fire and Rescue Association hosted an open house and ribbon cutting for the Washington County Public Safety Training Center (PSTC). Representatives from each agency spoke regarding the positive impact the new Public Safety Training Center will have on the future generations of public safety in Washington County, Maryland.
Washington County Accepting Nominations for Farm of the Year
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (9/14/2022) – The Washington County Department of Business Development announces nominations by the public are now being accepted for the 2022-2023 Washington County Farm of the Year.
Designed to recognize and honor the rich agricultural heritage embedded in Washington County, the Farm of the Year Award application is open to all farms located primarily in the County on five or more acres of land. Applications must be submitted by September 23, 2022.
